Follow these easy steps below to set up your MAC OS 8.1 - 9.x to the Internet.
The instructions will differ slightly from system to system, if there are
any questions, please contact GlobalNet.
1.
First you want to open up your Hard
Drive Icon
usually in the upper right-hand side of your screen.
2.
Locate either the "Assistants"
Folder or the "Internet"
Folder. Open whichever folder is on your computer.
3.
You should see the Internet
Setup Assistant in one of those folders. Open up
the Setup Assistant.
4.
You should see a "Welcome"
screen. Click on Yes.
5.
On the "Introduction"
screen click on the right arrow button to continue.
6.
You should now be on the "Configuration
name and connection type"
screen. Type GlobalNet
in the box where it asks, "What
would you like to name this configuration?"
Click on the right arrow button to continue.

You should now be on the "Modem
Settings" screen. Select
the correct modem for your computer (usually
the correct modem is selected for you).
Make sure you have the correct modem port selected for you modem. Click on the
right arrow button to continue.

You should now be on the "Configuration Information" screen. Type the
local dialup number in the top box where it asks for the phone number. In the
middle box which asks "which name do you use with this service", you
want to type your username
(username@surfglobal.net)
it is also the name which was chosen at the time of signup. In the bottom box,
which should ask, "what
is your password", you
want to type the password which you chose at the time of signup. Make sure when
you type everything in, that it is all Lowercase
with No Spaces.
Click on the Right arrow button to continue.
9.
You should now be on the "PPP
Connect Scripts" screen.
Click on NO.
Click on the Right arrow button to continue.
10.
You should now be on the "IP
Address" screen. Click
on NO.
Click on the Right arrow button to continue.

You should now be on the "Domain
Name Servers"
screen. Make sure there is nothing in both boxes. Click on the Right
arrow button to continue.
12.
You should now be on the "Email Address and Password"
screen. Type your email address in the top box (i.e.
username@surfglobal.net).
In the middle box, type your password
which you chose at the time of signup. Click on the Right arrow
button to continue.
13.
You should now be on the "Email Account
and Host Computer" screen. Type mail.surfglobal.net
in the top box for the POP server. Type mail.surfglobal.net
in the bottom box for the SMTP server. Click on the Right arrow
button to continue.
14.
You should now be on the "Newsgroup Host
Computer" screen. Leave it blank and click on the Right
arrow button to continue.
15.
You should now be on the screen that asks "Do
you use proxy servers for internet connections". Click
on NO and then click on the Right arrow
button to continue.
16.
You should now be on the "Conclusion"
screen. Click on Go Ahead. You are
now all set to connect to the internet on your IMAC and use your
email account. To connect later, you can use the remote access section
of the control strip, or you can use the remote access control panel
in your Apple menu.
